About Mac and Me

Mac and Me!

Welcome – I’m so glad you’re here.

This blog is about me and Mac – my Connemara pony, my teacher, and sometimes my biggest challenge.

I’ve owned Mac since he was two years old. He’s now seven, and over the years we’ve been on a winding journey together — one that’s taken us through frustration, confusion, and, slowly, toward healing. For a long time, something just didn’t feel right with him. He was willing and bright, but things that should have been easy just… weren’t.

Eventually, Mac was diagnosed with PSSM2 – a complex and often misunderstood muscle condition that affects many horses, including breeds like his. At times, it was overwhelming. There were so few clear answers, and every step forward seemed to come with two steps back.

But with the help of a remarkable equine practitioner — someone who looked at Mac’s health from the inside out — we began to make real progress. By focusing on gut health and nutrition, we’ve seen changes I didn’t think were possible. He’s not fully recovered yet, but I finally believe we’re on the right path.

What started as a diagnosis of PSSM2 has slowly evolved into something more complex — and maybe more hopeful. I’ve learned there may be another root cause behind Mac’s symptoms, and it’s changing how I approach everything.

This isn’t a professional medical site. I’m not an expert or a vet — just someone who’s learned a lot the hard way, and wants to pass that on with care and honesty.
